In the year 2000
Johnny was, Johnny Price as Al Jolson, in Stars in
your Eyes.
He admired the
character of Al Jolson who was a Jewish man who sung as
a minstrel in the 1930s. Al Jolson would blacken his face, put on his
tuxedo, and wear his white gloves and sing in the style of a minstrel.
He had the talent for making people laugh. Johnny was also a larger
than life character who loved to sing and dance and play the clown just
to make people happy.
He auditioned and
got the part and on April 13th 2000 he played Al
Jolson on Stars in you eyes.
He raised over
£2,000 for charity which went to the Lady Mayoress of
Wigin. He performed in the Monoco Ballroom in Hindley.
Johnny went to be
with the Lord two days later.
The three songs he
sang were:
Mammy how I love you
You made me love you
When the red, red
robin comes bob, bobbin, bobbing along
But his own
personal favourite was Amazing Grace
Amazing Grace how
sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me,
I once was lost,
but now I'm found, was blind but now I see
Johnny was saved by
Grace
